Porn Mac sold!

November 30, 2006 · Leave a Comment

A refurbished MacBook was sold filled to the brim with porn. The desktop was over run with very revealing JPGs. The computer was bought to be given to an 11 year old girl! Even though re-sold Macs are supposed to be completely wiped out, I guess this Apple Store’s employees couldn’t keep their pants up.

Bluetooth affects Wiimotes!

November 30, 2006 · Leave a Comment

I’m going to block off my Living Room from any bluetooth devices now. The guys at Jeux-France noticed something very odd during some playtime with Red Steel. Their pointer on the screen started to jump back and forth a bit, making it very hard to aim. They weren’t too sure what the issue was, until they realized that they had a bluetooth microphone in the room as well. It seems that other bluetooth devices can cause varying degrees of interference with the Wiimote. Caution tape your Wii areas from other bluetooth devices!

New Wii Update

November 29, 2006 · 2 Comments

Today’s WiiConnect24 Update has something to do with the Wii’s Parental Controls, which I couldn’t care less about. For you parents who need parental controls for your kids on your Wii, congratulations!

I wonder if they’ll match the Parental Control standard that is XBOX 360’s.

“The Wii-Speriments”

November 27, 2006 · 1 Comment

ZiffDavis, owners of 1UP and almost every gaming magazine of the shelves, have decided to go into their labs to run some tests, some already done, on the Wii. I knew that somebody would compile all of the experiments and findings on the Wii into one video. I’m anticipating more experiments to be done on the Wii and Wii components.

600,000 Wiis Sold

November 27, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Nintendo sold 600,000 Wiis at launch and 456,000 LOZs! Nintendo’s profit margin is getting higher and they are planning on 1 mil by the end of the year. I was hoping on every Wii to be paired up with a copy of LOZ, and at a 1:1 ratio, but my wish was close. I hope Nintendo doesn’t take in their success to harshly because I don’t want them to wind up like Sony.
Nintendo should try to capitalize on this success though and maybe speed up the production of DVD Wiis. It would also be cool for them to include a Virtual Console remote with the system.
I predict that they will wind up with 1.5 million sales by the end of the year, but I find that to be a little too small. Nintendo needed this good news since so many people doubted the system, and a lot of people still do. I convert about 20 people a day to Wii fanboys. Of course, I get some people who think the PS3 is all that, but all I have to do is tell them how much it costs, most are oblivious to its price, and the ones that know the price, I just tell them the only good games are Resistance and
Motor-Storm. Most of them get blown away, but some I can’t help because, to them their way is the only way. God, I hate stubborn people.

Launch Successful, Prepare for Transmission…

November 27, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Now that the USS Mactendo has launched, I figure that I can assess the launch.

My assessment? Fan-freaking-tastic. We came off with some pretty good posts and without a hitch, and I can’t wait to get some readers.

Now, the reason I made this post? I forgot some things the first time around – some launch specs I left out. First and foremost? The features.

Yes, the features list. The weeklies, the segments, etc. This is the meat and potatoes of any blog, no doubt, the stuff that makes the blog better than others.

First off, we have iTunes Freebie of the Week. This is something you’ve probably seen at other places, like TUAW and, of course, the iTunes Store, but the way we do it is a bit different. In iTunes Freebie of the Week, a member of the Mactendo team looks at that week’s list of Freebies (which can be as little as 1 and as many as, well, I’ve seen as many as 16 freebies as once) and chooses which is best. This week, I chose the Frisky Dingo pilot episode (see that post here), and went into detail why.

Next, we have Widget of the Week. Everyone else does this, and we figured we should too. We like widgets… too bad Dashboard’s a bit on the slow side (but hey, that’s what Dashboard KickStart’s for, right?)… but we like widgets, and we talk about the week’s best… if there is one.

Next, we have What We’re Playing This Week. Wether it be Mac, DS, Wii, or Cube (or even the humble GBA if that ever happens), we’re always playing something, new, old, and even classic, and this is where we talk about it.

Because it’s a good idea and the system’s so new, we have This Wiik in Wii. In TWIW (t-wee-ooh), we discuss that wiik’s Wii news, game releases, etc. Oh, and if possible, we have a Wii mini-review.

Another weekly segment will be the Mactendo Podcast, which will come very shortly.

Also, we have everyone’s favorite segment, App of the Week. Because everyone could use a new app once and a while.

Aside from weekly segments, we have our normal stuff. Mactendo Reviews, Mactendo Interviews, Game Releases, Game Charts, Editorials, etc.

Oh, and then there’s the special stuff. We’re working on some ideas for wholly original segments, but we already have one which has been carried over from WASDEM, and it’s a segment that’s very near and dear to me because I find it completely awesome.

The segment? True Addiction. True Addiction is an editorial segment that can be seen as one nerd’s manifesto. It’s a very different segment, and a very strong one at that, so watch out for those.

Other than that, I think that’s it. We’re going to be introducing a lot of new features in the future, though… so watch for those.

Rumor of the Week: “Apple Told Me About A Tablet Mac!”

November 26, 2006 · 1 Comment

Apple Touch Screen Mac Tablet PC With Docking Station In Mid 2007:

Yeah, thanks Digg. This ridiculous rumor, which popped up on my radar not 3 minutes ago, earns the ubiquitous title of Rumor of the Week. Not because it’s good, nor awesome, but completely… well, ridiculous. Not to repeat myself, but honestly, this thing is so ridiculous that I could go Steve Ballmer-style adnauseum repeating ridiculous all night long (while clapping and sweating at that). This is one of those rumors that you’re lucky to come across, something that you have to talk about. I love that.

You know, I’d expect this kind of wild “They told me!” crap-mongering from a Nintendo fanboy (Nintendo ON, anyone?), but from the Apple world, I really didn’t expect someone to pop up on Digg and start blathering about how Apple told him that there was a tablet Mac (rumor 1), with a docking station (rumor 2), launching next year (rumor 3) that had a new Apple media center running on it (rumor 4).

Wait, see that? That’s a combination of 4 ridiculous Apple rumors with a dash of the infamous they told me phrase. The Tablet Mac rumor has been floating for years, the entire launching next year thing has been the moniker for every single rumored product since September, the docking station rumor (iPod dock built-in, etc.), has been around since who knows when, especially since the Mac Mini was introduced, and a new Apple media center? By God, this thing’s an Apple fanboy’s wet dream Horn O’ Plenty!

Thanks but no thanks, because I’m not buying it. The only way I really buy rumors is if the author mentions the actual Taiwanese company developing the product, and most likely the conspirator behind this doesn’t know the name of either company, which are, if you didn’t know, Foxconn (rumored to be developing the infamous iPhone) and Hon Hai (the dudes behind iPod City, and once again rumored to be building the 12 million iPhones slated for next year). I’m pretty sure I’m missing one though – if anyone with some hardcore Apple knowledge could help me out that’d be killer.

But yeah… this is just, again, ridiculous. I applaud the writer, though, for coming up with such a magnificent rumor. Bravo, I say, bravo!

This week’s rumor gets a 10% probability rating, due to no sources, lack of official names, and the always fun “I was told…” card.

iTunes Freebie of the Week (1)

November 26, 2006 · 2 Comments

Welcome to the first iTunes Freebie of the Week! Basically, we look through all the freebies iTunes has for the week, and we choose the gem that lies among them.

This week’s best freebie? Frisky Dingo! The new Adult Swim show is being pushed in a big way, as obvious by its recently-aired pilot being free on iTunes. The show, from the creators of Sealab 2021, is pretty good, though does have room for improvement. It’s only 11 minutes, so it won’t take up too much room on your hard drive, and doesn’t look too bad in terms of quality, even in full-screen. And if you’re looking to show off something totally bitchin’ on Front Row or Windows Media Center, look no further. The visuals in this show are very original and quirky, something that will look great on your screen and good to show off to your friends. Great freebie, and great move on all sides to showcase this on the store. Sure, I’d love to see some more Adult Swim shows on there rather than this (Brak, anyone? Space Ghost?), but this is really nice.

Here’s the link and some more info:

Frisky Dingo Season 1: Meet Killface (101)
Killface, the most evil villain of all time ever, is halfway bent on destroying the Earth. Meanwhile his nemesis, Awesome-X, is ambivalent about stopping him, as it might just crush toy sales.
