The iPhone Cometh

“And he said down to them, ‘look upon my creation.’ And they look upon it, and fell to their knees in fear. For they knew what it was, and what they meant upon it.”

-Steve, 1:9

The iPhone is here. It’s now. We must appreciate its bounty, and its beauty. We must… save money for it, and switch to Cingular for it.

For it is real. And it wants you.

A Believable Apple Phone Rumor!

I find this a very conceivable Apple Phone because it looks like an Apple Product and has features that Apple probably would put into a phone. This leak is supposedly the mock-up for it, obviously with the name iPod, and I find it hard to believe that Apple would allow anything to be released. If we find this at MacWorld, the world will be at a stand stil!

Why I Bought the MacHeist Bundle

Yes, I did it. I did the thing that I’ll get yelled at by my fellow Mac fans tomorrow for.

I bought the MacHeist bundle yesterday. I wasn’t going to do it, especially after all that assorted controversy, but then they unlocked NewsFire, and I had to do it. I had to.

But why? Why didn’t I just buy those apps separately and give the money straight to the developers? Why didn’t I just buy the apps I wanted out of the bundle so I could get that warm, I just bought their app feeling?

Here’s my reasoning:

1) I’m Poor: I don’t have 360 dollars. I don’t even have 20. Because of school, I don’t have time to work, and I’m putting a lot of money and time into making this a full-fledged website and at the same time a money-making venture. I would have never been able to buy those apps in the first place.

2. I Had Discounts: Through playing the actual MacHeist heists, I attained 6 dollars in discounts, making the purchase even more palpable for me and my precious wallet.

3. The Apps Seduced Me: Look, I saw the bundle and immediately scratched my head. Sure, I use and love my trial versions of NewsFire, Disco, Delicious Library, and ShapeShifter. But other than that, I was never planning to buy TextMate – sure, it looked awesome, and was acclaimed, but I’m not a developer. I use the WordPress GUI for the website stuff I do and I’m happy with it. But now I own it, and I can do some HTML work for my friends comfortably and make money off of it. I had never in my life heard of FotoMagico. An 80 dollar slideshow app I’d never heard of – I was never going to buy that. But it looks cool now that I own it, and I’ll probably buy an update if they charge for it, because it’s a nice app. I had played Pangea games, but really, I had never planned on buying one, so I had them surprise me. I now own Nanosaur 2, which I would’ve never bought separately. Now, not only do I own a bunch of apps I’d never heard of or thought of buying (thus supporting their developers, which makes me happy), but I own some of the world’s best apps that I’ve been wanting to buy (NewsFire and Delicious Library are worth double the price of the bundle – it may be 40 dollars, but Delicious Library is the best app I’ve ever used… ever.).

4. Developers, Developers, Developers, Developers! – I support independent everything. Games, music, art… and developers. I license everything I put on the internet (stories, this blog, other blogs, etc.) under CreativeCommons, and if I were a software developer, I’d be open-source all the way. It is said developer support that makes me remorseful about using trials of apps and attempting to pirate apps. Sure, they’re getting a flat fee, whatever. Now I own the apps, and I don’t have to feel guilty anymore. And of course, when they come out, I’m going to buy the updates. Well, I know for sure I’m buying DL 2 the minute I get Leopard onto my system. And probably, I’ll buy other updates too.

5. Exclusivity – Can I buy iClip 4 anywhere else? Hell no. Can I download the beta? Hell no. Do I own iClip 3? I got it for free through MacZOT, so shoot me.

6. Customer Loyalty – Because of all the free apps I got, I am in love with the MacHeist/MyDreamApp team. It’s said love that made me jump for the bundle and buy it. Because I not only support the developers of the apps, but I support the developers of the site, too.

7. Charity – I don’t give to charity enough. I’ve been wanting to give to Save the Children for a long time. Now I own a bunch of awesome applications, and a quarter of the money is going to child welfare. It makes me feel awesome to type that out, because it reminds that I did a good deed just in time for Christmas/Hanukka (mazeltov).

8. Wow Factor – Dude, just look at it. $356.74 worth of applications… for 43 dollars (through discounts). Who wouldn’t want that?

I had my reasons, I bought it, and I’m happy. So shoot me.

Remember, the bundle is on sale until Sunday for $49.00 USD at MacHeist, and you can always gift an app to a fellow Mac user (‘Tis the Season!). Plus, if you’ve been holding off, TextMate was unlocked this morning, so you’ve got no reason to hold off any longer.

Rumor: 12″ Widescreen MacBook Pro

I would love for this to be true, hence I’m going to buy a Mac this summer, and if it is I hope that it is $1700-$1800. said by Engadget. I am still debating to get a really really good iMac or MacBook Pro, and if this is true, than I’ll probably wind up getting this. I hope they announce it at MacWorld ’07, which is close ahead. Most are saying it won’t be coming ’til Feburary. According to MacScoop we’ve
heard so much about., “sources believed to be very reliable” say that Apple is currently working on a super-slim widescreen 12-inch MacBook Pro (17-inch model, pictured), which would still contain the optical drive and that dual-core processor action. I encourage all of you to stay septical so Apple doesn’t get pressured with questions.

ShapeShifter and Mighty Mouse: Now Universal!

ShapeShifter and Mighty Mouse are now Universal Binaries!:

This is great news for anyone who’s into making their Mac look like a glowing blue demon spawn, or Star Wars, or Windows… and everything else you can do with these 2 awesome apps. ShapeShifter is a GUI messer upper that allows you to change the look of Mac OS X, and Mighty Mouse is a cursor app without spyware!!! Take that, CometCursor! Take it up the ass!

These two “essential” apps are finally out of universal beta and officially released in universal binary, so if you have money and are into that sort of customization (boy I miss OS 9’s themes), then I recommend stopping on by and downloading then buying some applications.

Next up for me? A mini-review of the recently released SketchFighter Alpha 4000 by Ambrosia Software, iTunes Freebie of the Week, and some news posts… for a change!

Porn Mac sold!

A refurbished MacBook was sold filled to the brim with porn. The desktop was over run with very revealing JPGs. The computer was bought to be given to an 11 year old girl! Even though re-sold Macs are supposed to be completely wiped out, I guess this Apple Store’s employees couldn’t keep their pants up.

Launch Successful, Prepare for Transmission…

Now that the USS Mactendo has launched, I figure that I can assess the launch.

My assessment? Fan-freaking-tastic. We came off with some pretty good posts and without a hitch, and I can’t wait to get some readers.

Now, the reason I made this post? I forgot some things the first time around – some launch specs I left out. First and foremost? The features.

Yes, the features list. The weeklies, the segments, etc. This is the meat and potatoes of any blog, no doubt, the stuff that makes the blog better than others.

First off, we have iTunes Freebie of the Week. This is something you’ve probably seen at other places, like TUAW and, of course, the iTunes Store, but the way we do it is a bit different. In iTunes Freebie of the Week, a member of the Mactendo team looks at that week’s list of Freebies (which can be as little as 1 and as many as, well, I’ve seen as many as 16 freebies as once) and chooses which is best. This week, I chose the Frisky Dingo pilot episode (see that post here), and went into detail why.

Next, we have Widget of the Week. Everyone else does this, and we figured we should too. We like widgets… too bad Dashboard’s a bit on the slow side (but hey, that’s what Dashboard KickStart’s for, right?)… but we like widgets, and we talk about the week’s best… if there is one.

Next, we have What We’re Playing This Week. Wether it be Mac, DS, Wii, or Cube (or even the humble GBA if that ever happens), we’re always playing something, new, old, and even classic, and this is where we talk about it.

Because it’s a good idea and the system’s so new, we have This Wiik in Wii. In TWIW (t-wee-ooh), we discuss that wiik’s Wii news, game releases, etc. Oh, and if possible, we have a Wii mini-review.

Another weekly segment will be the Mactendo Podcast, which will come very shortly.

Also, we have everyone’s favorite segment, App of the Week. Because everyone could use a new app once and a while.

Aside from weekly segments, we have our normal stuff. Mactendo Reviews, Mactendo Interviews, Game Releases, Game Charts, Editorials, etc.

Oh, and then there’s the special stuff. We’re working on some ideas for wholly original segments, but we already have one which has been carried over from WASDEM, and it’s a segment that’s very near and dear to me because I find it completely awesome.

The segment? True Addiction. True Addiction is an editorial segment that can be seen as one nerd’s manifesto. It’s a very different segment, and a very strong one at that, so watch out for those.

Other than that, I think that’s it. We’re going to be introducing a lot of new features in the future, though… so watch for those.
